Hijynx Cosplay started her journey back in 2014, and has been going strong ever since. Not knowing how to sew with a machine or any prior craft knowledge, she dove head first into the wonderful world of cosplay. For the past two years Hijynx has spent most of her time working with local charity groups visiting children in hospitals, working with American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, and countless others. She has a heart for children and loves being able to spread the love and joy of both superheroes and cosplaying to those around her. Since then, Hijynx began paneling all across the Gulf Coast and dedicated her time to helping and teaching others around her various skills such as wig styling, foamsmithing, and how to break into the cosplay scene with starting up a page and how to navigate through social media. In her spare time she can be found playing any form of Animal Crossing and trying desperately to get caught up on her favorite anime.
Who are the Umbrella Corps?
“We are a costuming group based on the Umbrella Corporation from the Resident Evil series of games and movies. We operate primarily in Jacksonville and Saint Augustine, Florida. Our beginning was small and humble – with a few members gearing up for zombie events, midnight game releases, conventions and of course, Halloween night. We decided to take it to the next level and turn what we had into a truly organized group effort. Thus, the 219th was born.
Our goals are to have fun, share camaraderie, encourage creativity and help out charitable causes along the way.”
The 219th will be on hand again this year with a fan table and panel presentations.
Little Red Fox Cosplay is an accomplished seamstress and costumer from Mobile, AL. Red grew up backstage at local ballets and theater companies and spent her childhood assisting in the creation and repair of all kinds of costumes and props. Her expertise in sewing and working with a wide variety of crafting materials, as well as her keen eye and attention to detail, keep her in demand as a cosplay competition judge. Known for innovative designs and use of materials, she is always looking for projects that will challenge both her skill level and her artistry. She believes that cosplay is about having fun and being whoever or whatever you want to be, and she always remembers to put the ͞play͟ in cosplay.
In addition to convention and event appearances, Red also maintains Causeplay Gulf Coast, a group of talented cosplayers and builders who volunteer their time at charitable and community events, portraying favorite characters from comics, television, movies, anime, and gaming, and entertaining the crowds. Their interactions with fans helps bring attention to worthy causes while providing a little something extra to the event.
When not cosplaying, Red can often be found at her sewing table at home, listening to audio books and working on the next project, or playing video games and annoying her dog, Lily. She also enjoys board games and cooking, and is addicted to all things Harry Potter.
